An exciting area of interest is the reprocessing of data and images currently residing in space mission archives. While digital processed, many of these images were obtained before the advent of widespread digital image processing techniques. Modern software processing algorithms allow the creation of new enhanced images from the old mission archives.
A key objective of this work is also to apply VAMP (Virtual Astronomy Multimedia Project) metadata to the images to allow their use in applications such as Google Sky and Microsoft World Wide Telescope.
In some cases there is no raw data to work from, but there is benefit obtained from modifying the metadata so as to allow correct sky projection.
